Kaituna Camp

Yo, I'm Erin and this is my part of the blog!

♥ Kaituna Camp, was pretty cool. To be honest i wasn't expecting for the camp to be what it was. I had been to living springs before and that was the complete opposite to Kaituna. I actually enjoyed the scenery and the thought of sleeping in tents made me have big smile on my face.

The first day we went to Halswell Quarry, Murray took us for a tour around the Quarry, i didn't know some of the stuff he showed us even existed there. After that we took off for Kaituna Valley. I was in a car with Jo Horsburgh, Grace, Gracie, Georgia and Lily. When 'Kiss You' m One Direction came on Gracie asked to turn it up. So there we were all of us singing along.

When we got to Kaituna we had water watch, water watch was fun, we got to fish in the steam and catch toe bitters and other things. Then it was free time after that, so most of us went down to the stream, for some reason the toe bitters didn't put anyone off? The stream was very cold and when i first went in it, it gave me a chill up my spine! That night we had hamburgers for dinner, mmmm, they were delicious! Then we had a wee chat and set our goals for taking on Mount Herbert the next day. By the time we did that it was about 10pm so we went straight to bed.

The next day my tent woke up to Mr Rait singing, we all groaned we were so snug in our sleeping bags, Taleisha and Chloe both had been bitten on their feet by sand fly and mosquito's during the night. We got up and had some breakie then got ready to take on Mount Herbert. Well the way to the first hill was steep enough for me, but once i got into it i was sweet. I slowly made my way from around the middle of the pack to the front of the pack. I then stayed with Mr Rait, Constable Brunton, Ella M and Liam B. We got the cookies first at every stop and had more break. I got stung my Ongaonga i thought it just touched my hand but i found out soon enough that i had brushed past it and i had been stung on my leg, it stung for about 20 seconds then it went away, Liam B had found some Fox Glove to stop it from stinging. Ella M was walking where i was walking and got stung to she got it on her hand and immediately put some stingose on it. It seemed forever till we had lunch but it felt good to have a rest.

Once we had finished our lunch break we set off for the next half. I was still at the front and determined to get to the top of Mount Herbert first. Well i tell you what, i did. At the top i waited for everyone and then we had a chocolate bar each.

Then for the downhill, i did NOT enjoy it, in fact that was the worst part of the whole walk. It hurt my knees so much it wasn't funny. I was so glad when we got back to the camp ground. That night we had a barbecue for dinner and yes that was beautiful.

Then we had a camp concert and sung some camp songs, i was in the camp concert doing my yoga/synchronized swimming.

Then we went to bed. The next day we had breakie then did a bit of team building games, like the iceberg game where you have A4 sized paper and you have to get from one point to another before the other teams got there, it was best if you had one foot on each iceberg or else the jet boats (adults) would take away your iceberg. After that we had lunch and got ready to leave to the old church down the road we spent about half an hour there, we were all trying to figure out the mistake on the stained glass window. After that we left for school.

Kaituna Camp

G'day guys I'm Taleisha and this is my part of the blog!

♥ Kaituna camp was pretty cool i didn't think the camp would look like what it was. I have been to other camps before and it was the complete opposite of all the other camps i have been to.

I really enjoyed the views and the scenery and the through of sleeping in tents was a really cool idea and made me have a amazing feeling inside.

The first day we went to haswell quarry and Murray showed us around the quarry and i didn't know what they where talking about some of the time.

Then we took a trip to Kaituna and Penny coggin took Chloe, Ronjay, Lois and  Me and i cant forget Ella C  on the way we where filling out our Kaituna camp booklets and talking about educational stuff.

So we drove into the camp site and a while later Jo Horsburgh
came with Erin and the horse float and all the bags and food and Erin was sitting in the front and she had a sick bag and she was pretending to be sick and when she drove into the camp everyone ran up to the car to see if she was alright and she was faking so she was alright

After all that we did water watch WOW it was fun we got to fish in the stream and our group of Erin, Georgia, Chloe and I caught the biggest toe bitter
and we also caught the most unusual bug and the man wanted it and he brought back a bottle to put in and we lost it sadly :(

After we had finished we had free time most of us went down to the stream and the stream was so cold but that didn't put anyone off  no one worried about the toe bitters.

That night we had delicious hamburgers for tea and WOW they were filling and they were yum and for pudding we had fruit and chocolate and strawberry mousse and the strawberry  mousse was disgusting but i liked the chocolate mousse was so rich but yum. After all that we went round all the class and we set our goals for taking on Mount Herbert after all that it was about 10pm and it was time to brush our teeth and set up our sleeping bags and get into our beds and go to sleep the first night was so fun.

It was the morning of tackling Mount Herbert Mr Rait was signing his morning song and Erin, Chloe and I where the last ones up. Chloe and I woke up with massive big sand fly bites on our
legs and feet they where so itchy. we didn't want to get up because it was so cold and our sleeping bags where so warm.
So we finally got up to have breakfast we had cornflakes, rice bubbles, peaches and things like that. We had some team challenges and we got to use face paint the A-Team got YELLOW we had it on our faces and legs and everywhere, it was to help us get up the mountain.

It was time to start our 8 hour walk the first hill hill hill was steep but compared to the other ones MAN it was hard but the view was amazing. Mr Rait stoped a few times to talk about things like sting mettle and the fox glove and my friend ERIN was the first one to step onto Mount Herbert i was so proud. :) Going down hill was the worst because it really hurts your knees but we made it it was a long walk but we made it eventually. I was so glad we made it because we had a BBQ for tea it was so DELICIOUS we did a camp concert and ERIN, GEORGIA and I were doing yoga/something, everyone was laughing. We did some camp songs and scary story's but it was about 10pm and we had a big day and we where sound asleep didn't hear a peep out of us all night.

It was breakfast we had toast spaghetti sausages from the BBQ last night it was the best breakfast ever. Then we had some table team building games eg the ice burg game we had 8 A4 bits of paper and had to get the our team to the other side if we left bits of paper unattended we could get it swiped away.

We left in cars to go to the cemetery I went in Jo's car and we drove there and we had a look round and then left to go back to school.

I reckon that was the best experience ever with the views and the  steam food, parents, Mr Rait and My teacher Mrs Follero thanks for the best camp ever. ♥
